Our Programs
We offer a range of enriching cultural and educational community programs for all ages in close partnership with the library.
Mayor’s Book Club
The annual Mayor’s Book Club is a citywide reading campaign to encourage a community experience through reading, discussion, and exploration of shared books.
Badgerdog Creative Writing Camps
Badgerdog Creative Writing Camps allow 3rd-12th grade students to immerse themselves in a supportive, imaginative writing experience. Intimately-sized workshops are led by professional writers and explore the arts of poetry, fiction, nonfiction, playwriting and screenwriting.
Austin Youth Poet Laureate
A young poet is chosen annually to represent Austin as its Youth Poet Laureate. The program aims to identify and uplift young writers and leaders who are committed to civic and community engagement, poetry and performance, diversity, social justice, and education.
atCentral
A free cultural series at the Central Library that connects authors, artists, filmmakers, and musicians with the community.
APL After Dark
A themed, after hours event that provides fun and edu-tainment for grown-ups at the Central Library.
Banned Books Week
The Library Foundation puts a spotlight on the American Library Association’s Banned Books Week by celebrating free expression and the freedom to read through various programs and events.
Kids Block Party
This free, fun-filled annual festival at the Central Library celebrates literacy and learning through play by giving children a chance to spend a day creating, discovering, experimenting, moving, dancing, and so much more.
Stories
Get ready for “Stories,” our annual gala where we celebrate and elevate the Austin Public Library’s incredible impact on our community!
Teen Library Fellowship
This paid fellowship engages a teen cohort in improving teen services at libraries, expanding teen awareness of careers in libraries, and increasing teen involvement in advocacy and education around library related issues.
