Badgerdog Workshop Series: Crafting Characters for Fiction + Nonfiction

March 7, 2019 @ 12:00 am - April 11, 2019 @ 1:00 am

Free

According to Ernest Hemingway, writers should not make characters, they should make real people. In this workshop, we will explore the different techniques for developing “real people,” with close attention paid to how character-writing shapes stories and essays. We will examine short fiction, short narrative essays, and experimental prose. By examining the different ways classic and contemporary authors have developed characters, we will hone methods for creating our own, and examine how character details stack to form a narrative. You’ll leave the workshop with a cast of characters rich enough to fill future novels, short stories, essays, and memoirs. Led by Badgerdog teaching artist Nick Almeida, this workshop is free and open to adults, age 18 and up. Please register via EventBrite as space is limited.

This workshop is a six-week series that will meet every Wednesday from 6:00-8:00pm starting March 6 through April 10, 2019.
