Join the Library Foundation and Bookspring for Family Readathon February!
The Family Readathon is an annual event where kids read and fundraise to help other kids. Readers learn about community service and sharing the joy of book ownership with thousands of children in need of books. It is open to all kids, families, schools, groups, and civic organizations. During the entire month of February, Readathoners are challenged to read as many minutes as they can and collect donations and compete for fun prizes. Money raised will benefit Bookspring in their mission to distribute books to kids facing economic hardship in Central Texas, and help the Library Foundation support programs and collections at the Austin Public Library!
Get ready for the Readathon with a Readathon Warm-Up Workshop!
These free virtual workshops are open to all students and parents interested in participating in this year's Readathon. Participants will practice finding best-fit books for themselves, responding to this year's Readathon fun challenges, and creating a roadmap to increase their reading endurance. In addition to these activities and exercises, students will learn about the purpose of the Readathon and how their participation helps other students and families across the Austin & Central Texas communities.
An additional workshop, "What is Bookopolis?", is open to students of all ages and their parents, and will walk participants through Bookopolis, the website that Readathoners will use to track their reading in February.
