Join us for the opening of Elizabeth Hudson’s Maze Tales
What if getting lost isn’t something to fear—but an invitation to explore?
In her exhibition Maze Tales, Texas artist Elizabeth Hudson reimagines the maze as more than a difficult path to navigate. Instead, it becomes a journey we choose to take: a place where there are no clear directions, where curiosity becomes our compass, and where getting lost can lead to unexpected discoveries.
Drawing from Black folklore, Hudson creates a dreamlike world where the natural, imagined, and constructed intersect. Watercolor paintings weave together staircases, pathways, playgrounds, and elements of the natural world, creating scenes that feel at once familiar and otherworldly.
Her work invites viewers to slow down, wander, and embrace the unknown. Without a prescribed route or a single destination, Maze Tales leaves room for surprise, wonder, and interpretation. Each painting becomes its own kind of labyrinth — a place to pause, explore, and see where your imagination takes you.
Exhibition continues through Jan. 3, 2027 in The Gallery at Central Library.
