Mayor's Book Club
Mayor's Book Club
The Mayor’s Book Club is an annual citywide reading campaign that provides a community experience through reading and discussion of shared books. The program’s goal is to broaden and deepen an appreciation of literature in the Austin community, to increase the visibility of the Austin Public Library, and to promote the Library’s value to the entire community.
Each year, we select a book (or paired books), and invite all of Austin to read with us and join us for a series of programs that more deeply explores the book’s themes, questions, and foundations. The Mayor’s Book Club programs typically include a writing workshop or craft talk with the author, a reading and Q&A with the author, a community conversation around the book’s topic, and a film screening.
Stay tuned for announcements about our 2017 Mayor’s Book Club selection.

Each year, hundreds of readers participate in Mayor’s Book Club events, which include author readings, discussions led by authors and other well-known Austinites, writing workshops, and school visits. All events are free and the public is encouraged to attend.
