Ella Kim, the 2024 Austin Youth Poet Laureate, visited “We Are Austin” for a reading of her poem “Vanities” and to share more about her journey to achieving this prestigious title and her plans for the future.
“I honestly never thought I would be in this position. I love writing. I love reading. I’ve been a creative writer from the start, and it means so much to be recognized in this way,” said Kim.
She explained that her role involves engaging with the community and promoting the power of poetry. This summer The Library Foundation publish a chapbook of poems.
Kim delves into various themes in her work including identity and self perception.
“I find that it’s really helpful to me as a way to express these complicated feelings,” she said.
