From Story to Submission: The College Essay Workshop | Online via Zoom
Writing about yourself is hard. Most college essays end up sounding like a AI wrote them — or a very bored teenager. Badgerdog’s week-long intensive changes that.
On the writing side, students will work with instructor Nour Al Ghraowi, a writer who has led essay workshops for years. With Nour, they’ll set aside the clichés and the “academic mask” they think admissions officers want, and dig into the specific, human stories that actually make an application stand out — learning to find their own voice, turn a small memory into a big insight, and write a personal statement that sounds exactly like them.
On the admissions side, they’ll hear from Yvonne Espinoza, CEP, a highly regarded Austin-based college counselor who guides students locally and across the country. Yvonne brings the insider’s eye — helping students understand what admissions readers are actually looking for, so the stories they tell are not only true to them, but work hard on the application.
Great writing plus admissions know-how: by week’s end, students will have more than a draft. They’ll have a story they’re proud to tell.
